Welcoming the Chinese New year 2014, the University of WidyaKartikaheld Chinese Festival celebrations in Tunjungan Plaza Surabaya atrium entitled “Horse Spring Festival”. The activities were held from January 24 to 26, 2014. There were various kinds of agenda that were held during these three days including Chinese dances, Chinese New Year game, Wushu, Lion Dance, Mandarin Song & Band, magic, and Gu Cheng (Chinese lute). Various competitions were also held to commemorate the Lunar New Year in 2565,the first was Mandarin Singing Contest which was for 7-25 years old people with a total prize of IDR. 5.000.000,-. The second competition was Scrapbook Competition which was intended for high school students/equivalent with a total prize of IDR. 3.000.000,-.

 

During the event, besides enjoying typical Chinese entertainments, visitors could also learn some more about Chinese culture such as Zhongguo cha (Chinese tea drinking art), ZhongguoJie (Chinese art of tying) and follow the talk about the Fengshuiof golden horse. Even if lucky, visitors could get a chance to get angpaufrom the god of money who was wandering around every day. The exhibition stands and the atmosphere were also unique and attractive,filled with Chinese atmosphere. The uniqueness of the design was expected to be the main attraction for visitors that were interested in getting to know the Chinese culture.

“The objective of this event, besides celebrating Chinese New Year 2014, UWIKA also wants to introduce the importance of Chinese education to the community and encourages students to develop their interests and talents through various competitions and activities,” said Dra.
