To celebrate the Lunar New year 2013, University Widya Kartika held a celebration in Grand City Mall atrium, Surabaya. The activity took place from February 5 to 10, 2013. There were varied agendas held. One was a discussion about the Surabaya Heritage. Based on planning, the activity was carried out at Grand City Mall on Tuesday, February 7, 2013 at 15:30 until finished. Presented as the facilitator was Dukut Imam Widodo, an artist and author of numerous books about the history of some cities, such as Soerabaia Tempo Doeloe, Grissee Tempo Doeloe, Malang Tempo Doeloe, Hikajat Soerabaia Tempo Doeloe, Soerabaia In The Olden Days and Monggo Dipun Badhog. The discussion would also talk about Surabaya heritage, especially Chinatown.
For one week starting from February 5 to 10, 2013, Architecture Department of Widya Kartika University also held a photo exhibition in the main atrium of Grand City Mall Surabaya. The works on display were creations of sketches and photography ‘Frame Architecture 2012,’ participants and also works of 2012-2013Widya Kartika Univerity Architecture’s students.
On Saturday, February 9th, 2013 at 16:00 in the same place, Budi ‘Bede’ Darmawan, a professional photographer and instructor from Icon School of Photography would also attend the exhibition. Not only that, in a discussion session, he would share his experiences in the world of photography that had been cultivated for more than 40 years. At the same time, the book of SMA/SMK students’ photography collection, ‘Surabaya in Frame memories.’ Would also be launched. In addition, the event was also made as a registration period to join photography community with Budi Darmawan as the main builder.
During the exhibition, visitors could also join a papercraft competition with Rp. 1.000.000,- as the total price. Participants might join as individuals or groups (with friends or family). One set of equipment supplied by the committee. Winners would be announced on the last day of the exhibition, which was Sunday, February 10th, 2013 at 12:30 pm.
The series of events were organized to enliven the Widya Kartika University’s Chinese New Year 2013. The stalls and exhibition atmosphere were designed uniquely with the feel of the great wall of China. This unique design was expected to be the main attraction for the visitors of the exhibition. Nevertheless, the campus of Widya Kartika University also distributed some scholarships.
