Over the past year, the non-academic site of Widya Kartika University (Uwika) can be considered quite encouraging. The faculty, students, and Uwika’s campus received positive appreciation from the various parties. However, it has not reached visible outstanding achievement in the academic field.
Therefore, Uwika’s Rector, Dr. Ir. Gembong Baskoro, M.Sc., requested that all academic staff to develop and improve themselves. “Institutions can not walk without the academic aspect. And progress should be made by each academic department. While other units helped with corresponding duties and functions of each, “he said in the 2012 Year-End Gathering event on Uwika’s campus, Thursday, December 20, 2012.
The Rector assessed, in terms of resources, the potential of each personnel in Uwika was quite promising. Thus, it was really possible to realize the dream of existing campus in Jalan Sutorejo Prima Utara II / 1 Surabaya. But, the desire must be kept fired up so that it could be done synergistically.
One step that can be used is through working effectively and efficiently. “The ones who know our capabilities and convenience are us ourselves. So, once again, it is ourselves who can make that duty be done effectively and efficiently, “he continued.
In addition, the important factor that could advance an educational institution was innovation. Generally, colleges were able to grow largely tend to try and create a new breakthrough. In Uwika, many young people were still agile and likely bring innovation. For that, in the future, this potential should be maximized.
In the present era, education has been moving like an industry. So, who can not compete has only one choice, be displaced. However, the campus as one of the institutions of higher education must continue to promote the noble mission, which is to develop and improve the intellectual life of the nation.
Rector also briefly touched the leadership. Soon, the period of leadership positions in Uwika would end. Therefore, the Rector hoped, the entire academic Uwika should fully support anyone who would continue the mandate. “If we do not support, it also means that we impede Uwika’s progress,” he said.
In the event, the organizers invited a motivator from Tranceformasi Indonesia (TI). Bobby Meidrie, founder and Managing Director of IT said, most great men were those who were able to adapt. “We must dare to reverse the mindset to inject a positive suggestion for a success,” he said.
