UWIKA sent Students to Continue Study in China

University of Widya Kartika (UWIKA) sent 12 students to study in Chongqing, China on Friday, August 30, 2013 in Room 311 UWIKA campus. They had the opportunity to study in the Bamboo Curtain country study by scholarships. It was not separated from the cooperation that has existed between UWIKA with the Chinese government, especially with Chongqing Normal University.

In these event, students who were sent by the Rector of Uwika, Dr. Murpin Josua Sembiring, S.E., M.Sc., are Amelia Elviani, Stephani Muharto Tan, Joyce Irmawati, Jessy Desun Amelia, Jessica Devi Christianto, Melly Christiawan, Yesinia Ratulado, Yessy Chandra, Tenny Panjaya Poa, Jessica Novia Gunawan, Muharto Felicia Tan, Samuel, and Elizabeth Valentina. UWIKA also invited their parents. This was an appreciation for the achievements.

In his speech, the Rector hoped that students can use this opportunity well. “Therefore, these scholarships’ recipients are chosen people. Thus, they must study well in order later to become reliable Chinese teachers,” he said.

According to Dr. Murpin, this scholarship is an appreciation of the achievements of the students. They were selected because their GPA record and skills in non-academic areas. Mandatory requirement that must be passed was the value of a minimum GPA of 3.5. In addition, they were required to immediately practice the Mandarin language knowledge that had been acquired. Not only this time, the cooperation with the Chinese government has been a commitment of UWIKA every year. This year is the fifth year.

The main purpose of this scholarship is to provide new experience. Students are expected to be able to feel how the atmosphere, climate, and culture of China. So, what has been learned can be applied-directly.

“We hope that the students are motivated and can absorb a variety of science in China maximally, to be brought to Indonesia and shared the knowledge to the people around,” he explained.

Dr. Murpin also advised, as representatives of the campus, students should be able to maintain the attitude and behavior. Therefore, each of behavior won’t be merely seen personally, but also institutionally. “Could be, the people there will see Indonesia from these students. Therefore, please behave well in order to avoid negative perceptions,” he said. This event was celebrated with a number of performance and sharing of previous award.

The Head of Chinese Department, Ong Peter Leonardo, B.A., M.Ed., added that learning the language would be much better if we know how the language is used in everyday socializing. So it will be easier to understand the use of the term or word association .

“It has been 122 students who had left to China to study. Every period that was sent was also required to bring the original culture of Indonesia to be exhibited there. For this year, they will display the dance of Papua, Sajojo,” he added.

Later, after a lecture of four semesters in Uwika, they went on a two-year college in Chongqing Normal University. “There, they are also working on their thesis. In addition, students can feel the atmosphere, climate, and culture of China,”said Peter.
